I would staring at a benchtop that just didn’t feel right.

On paper, the material was perfect.

In the space? Completely different story.

That was the night I stopped choosing materials from samples alone.

From then on, I’d always drop a proper texture pack into the model first.

And having it Flat. Well-lit. To scale ... made a big difference.

Because materials change in context and a fit out is a big investment - in the tens to hundreds to millions of dollars range. You want to get the 'vibe' right before commiting.

Lighting shifts colour. Patterns repeat across full sheets.
Scale can feel very different once it’s stretched 2.4 metres wide.

That “vibe check” step saved me more than once.
