From Frustrated Architect to Eco-Design Innovator: How I'm Revolutionising Interiors with Recycled Plastic

From Frustrated Architect to Eco-Design Innovator: How I'm Revolutionising Interiors with Recycled Plastic

So in my twenties I was working in an architecture studio designing the interior of an airport building. When I was choosing which materials to specify, I remember feel so frustrated because I only had 2 options at the time:

1. I could've chosen the beautiful material that I wanted,

however it had ingredients I couldn't pronounce and I knew in a few years it would end up in landfill

2. Or, I could've chosen a sustainable product

But the options that were available at the time were few and ... ugly. And the products were not durable enough to last.

So I remember thinking: What if we created better materials so designers could have better options? What if materials existed that were beautiful, strong and inherently durable? This was the mid 2010s.

Fast forward to today turns out that I wasn't the only designer who felt that way And for as designers of my generation and the generation after us - sustainable spaces is no longer negotiable.

Ngā mihi nui Michelle Goodall and the Jasmax whānau for the opportunity to kōrero with your talented designers!

I run a green materials company called Critical. and we help designers create beautiful spaces using 100% recycled plastic panels we call Cleanstone. If your looking to create beautiful and sustainable interiors I'd love to help! Send me a DM or reach out at criticaldesign.nz
