This one project changed how I think about architecture— And where we’re headed if we want to build better. WATCH VIDEO
Pac Studio just won the NZIA Small Project Award for the Karanga Changing Sheds.
But the real win was that they proved you can build small, quiet, and lasting—without cutting corners on carbon.
Most public projects are built fast, cheap, and short-lived
MDF. Vinyl. Painted ply. Gone in five years.
PAC used Cleanstone—
A low-carbon panel made from 100% recycled plastic— as the roofing panels, lining, and detail.
No coatings. No warping.
Waterproof. Durable. Circular.
Fully recyclable at end of life.
It’s the first time we’ve seen Cleanstone used like this. And it worked. The material held up. The kaupapa held strong.
Because fit-out waste is one of the least talked about design issues in Aotearoa.
And yet it contributes to tonnes of carbon and landfill every year.
Pac Studio's work shows what’s possible when design isn’t led by just a brief—
But by values.
So if you care about legacy, and you’re ready to build work that lasts longer than trends—Let’s kōrero.
