Releasing Recycled Plastics Back Into the Wild: How Cleanstone is Transforming Waste Into High-Performance Design

Today is both an exciting and emotional day as we attempt one of the largest animal relocations in Critical. Zoo history.

WATCH Plastic Hunter Episode 4

We’re releasing one of the most sought after yet dangerous plastic creatures—the mighty Forest Cleanstone—back into the wild. 🐊♻️

But make no mistake—this is no ordinary operation. One wrong move, and we’re in serious trouble. With the rope prepped and my heart pounding, I knew this would take every ounce of skill, patience, and adrenaline.

Here's what happened.

💪 The Mission: Capture, relocate, and reintegrate this rare species into its natural habitat.

🎯 The Destination: Our wildlife conservation partners Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki—a sanctuary for rescued plastic creatures, where they can live freely in a space designed for them to thrive.

🔄 Why This Matters: Every piece of Cleanstone is made from 100% recycled plastic waste—from fishing nets to post-consumer plastics—giving materials a second life instead of ending up in landfill or polluting our oceans.

😅 And after an intense struggle (and a bit of rope work that would make uncle Steve Irwin proud), we finally secured our Cleanstone specimen. Safe and sound, ready for release.

But here’s the real question:

If we can rescue plastic waste and turn it into stunning, durable materials for interior fit outs… shouldn’t we be doing this at scale?

💬 Let’s kōrero: What’s stopping the design and construction industry from going fully circular? Cost? Durability? or looks? Drop your thoughts below. 👇
