This might be the most ridiculous wildlife rescue you’ve ever seen… but hear me out.
At Critical., we’re closing the loop on plastic waste—one apex predator at a time. And in this special episode of Plastic Hunter, we’re releasing one of our most dangerous rescues back into the wild… the majestic Kererū Cleanstone.
Come with me and watch the full saga unfold:
🚗 The Arrival
With all the grace of a seasoned wildlife expert, I definitely don’t get stuck climbing out of my car window before dramatically unveiling our latest rehabilitated specimen.
💪 The Relocation Struggle
Transporting an apex predator is not for the faint-hearted. It was tough work dragging Cleanstone across Albert Park and into it's new natural habitat at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
🎨 The Release at Auckland Art Gallery
In its new home, Cleanstone will live on as a functional, zero-waste, architectural element—proving that sustainable materials aren’t just a nice idea, they belong in our most beautiful spaces.
Oh and a massive shelter to Scott Parker for designing this beautiful habitat where Critical. Cleanstone can live free and happy lives without facing discrimination.
🛠 Why This Rehabilitation Matters for Designers & Architects
✔️ Circular by Design – Materials should be rescued, not wasted.
✔️ Durable & Functional – Cleanstone lasts a lifetime, resisting moisture, impact, and damage.
✔️ Sustainability with Storytelling – Every panel is made from real NZ plastic waste, given new purpose.
✔️ Significantly reduce carbon emissions – with an emissions index of 0.0028 CO2e/kg of Cleanstone, you can avoid over 1000 the emissions compared to materials made from virgin plastics, chemicals and minerals.
