What happens when you soak your fit out materials in water for a year?

We’re about to find out. We dropped three materials into jars of water:

MDF with laminate, Plywood and Cleanstone made from 100% recycled plastic (of course)

All exposed to the same conditions; water and air.

All filmed over time across:

One hour. One day. One month. One year.

Here’s why:

Most interiors get ripped out within 5–7 years. MDF and ply aren’t made to last. But Cleanstone is. And let's see if I'm right!

Follow me here on Linkedin or @Critical.things on instagram if you want to see a time lapse on how the materials degrade over time!

We'll do our first check in, in a weeks time!

If you’re a designer, architect or brand founder specifying for interiors, ask yourself:

Would you build with something that can’t survive moisture or water?

Again, I'll be posting the results over the next 12 months!

Follow along or visit criticaldesign.nz to see how each material holds up.

Enough- we need to stop designing for landfill.
