Why Māori Design Belongs in Every New Zealand City

Why Māori Design Belongs in Every New Zealand City

'Iwi Māori are the sizzle of Aotearoa.' I remember Ngarimu Blair sharing this reflecting with me 9 years back.

I believe we need more Māori design in our cities and landscapes, sharing the important stories that remind us of our shared history and identity so that we can confidently move towards our future carrying the lessons of our past.

Just look at how beautiful this detail is. Designed by Amy Hawke and Graham Tipene and carved by matua Jacob Scott's workshop Te Ara Hihiko.

This was exhibited at Viaduct Harbour during Matariki last year and now sitting I believe on Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Marae.
