Description

Crafted from Recycled Plastics in Aotearoa

Cleanstone is a high-performance, sustainable panel made entirely from recycled plastics including post-consumer and ocean plastics. Manufactured in Auckland, New Zealand, using proprietary in-house technology, Cleanstone is a zero-waste, near-carbon-neutral, and fully circular material.

To achieve this solid colour finish, this Pastel Blue Cleanstone panel is made with 98% recycled soft plastics and packaging with a 2% blend of natural pigment.

Dual-Surface Finish for Design Flexibility

Starting from May 15, 2025, all Cleanstone panels feature two distinct surface finishes:

  • A Face: A matte finish that offers a natural, stone-like appearance, reducing glare and providing a tactile feel.

  • B Face: A gloss natural mould finish that showcases the material's unique patterns and variations.

This dual-surface design allows for greater flexibility in design applications, catering to various aesthetic preferences.

Unique Aesthetic with Natural Variations

Each Cleanstone panel is unique, featuring swirls, speckles, and streaks that result from the movement of recycled plastics during the manufacturing process. These natural variations are a testament to the material's recycled origins and contribute to its distinctive character.

Please note that all Cleanstone panels may have surface marks, which are inherent to the recycled materials used and the manufacturing process. These marks do not affect the panel's performance or durability.

Key Features:

  • Material Composition: 100% recycled soft plastics, including post-commercial clear plastic wrap and post-consumer white soft plastic packaging. No veneers or additives; the material is solid throughout.

  • Dimensions: Panels measure 1200mm by 2400mm and are available in thicknesses of 3mm, 9mm, 12mm, 18mm, 24mm, and 30mm.

  • Durability: Cleanstone is waterproof, impact-resistant, and does not rot, crack, mold, or swell. It has the same scratch resistance as exposed timber and can be sanded and polished to restore its finish if required over time. Cleanstone is designed to last a lifetime.

  • Use it outside: Cleanstone is UV-resistant and, combined with its 100% waterproof nature, is suitable for exposed outdoor applications such as exterior joinery, rainscreens, signage, and covered alfresco areas.

  • Heat Resistance: Suitable for direct contact with temperatures up to 100°C. While it can handle hot drinks and spilt boiling liquids, avoid placing hot frying pans directly on the surface to prevent melting or marking.

  • Sustainability: Cleanstone is near carbon neutral, emitting only 0.0028 CO₂e/kg, which is up to 1,250 times lower than virgin plastics or traditional engineered stone. It is fully recyclable at the end of its life.

Applications:

Cleanstone panels are versatile and suitable for a range of applications, including:

  • Kitchen countertops and cabinetry

  • Bathroom vanities and wall linings

  • Retail and commercial fit-outs

  • Furniture and shelving

  • Decorative wall panels

Working with Cleanstone:

Cleanstone can be worked with using standard woodworking tools, similar to materials like MDF or Perspex. However, due to its unique properties, we recommend that fabricators and installers familiarize themselves with our Cleanstone Manual before commencing work. Key considerations include:

  • Surface Finishing: Panels can be sanded and polished to achieve the desired finish. Start with 240-grit sandpaper and progress up to 800-grit for a smoother finish.

  • Handling and Storage: Store panels flat and support them evenly to prevent warping. Avoid exposing panels to direct sunlight or high temperatures during storage.

  • Installation: Use appropriate adhesives and fixings suitable for plastic materials. Ensure proper expansion gaps are maintained to accommodate thermal movement.

Care and Maintenance:

To maintain the appearance and longevity of Cleanstone panels:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft cloth or sponge with warm soapy water. For tougher stains, use isopropyl alcohol or a non-abrasive household cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals, scouring pads, or abrasive cleaners.

  • Heat Protection: Use trivets or heat-resistant mats to protect the surface from hot cookware.

  • Scratch Repair: Minor scratches can be sanded out using fine-grit sandpaper, followed by polishing to restore the finish.

End-of-Life Recycling:

Cleanstone is designed with a circular economy in mind. At the end of its life, panels can be returned to Critical for recycling, ensuring that the materials are repurposed and kept out of landfills.
