How Truth or Dare Bar Built a Luxury Fit-Out That’s 15% Cheaper—Using 100% Recycled Plastic Panels

Truth or Dare bar is perhaps one of the most exciting bars to launch in Auckland because they are STAGING cocktails.

Every surface was designed like a stage.

And yes whānau... at the centre of the stage are Critical.'s Goldfinch Cleanstone panels.

Made from 100% hard-to-recycled plastic fishingn and soft plastics packaging.

Tougher than stone. Zero virgin materials. Built to last forever.

And I love this design by Amanda Wijaya alongside our mates Spacebar Design because they provde something important:

That even hidden details can become design features.

One of my favourite moments was how they turned recycled plastic panels into a mimic fireplace!

And on top of that materials don’t have to peel, warp, or fail after a few years.

A fitout can be luxurious, moody, and circular—at the same time.

But here's the best part about this story:

This project came in 15% under budget, outperforming three competing quotes that ignored sustainability. Flip'n epic right?!

And research shows 78% of diners prefer venues with strong sustainability values.

That means design decisions like this don’t just look good.

They help businesses win customers, build loyalty, and stand out.

Question for you:

If sustainability lowers costs, lasts longer, and brings in more customers—

Why are so many fitouts still built with MDF and laminates?

If you’re designing your next bar, restaurant, or kitchen:

Ask how your materials perform over years, not months.

Demand options that can be repaired, reused, or recycled.

Choose solutions that invite people to connect with your values.

At Critical, we make Cleanstone panels from 100% recycled plastic waste.

Panels you can build with, reuse, and take with you when you relocate.

That’s what design for the future looks like.
