What Mike McRoberts' Story Can Teach Designers About Purpose, Legacy, and Uplifting Others

I watched matua Mike McRoberts on the news growing up and after hearing his stories this morning covering worn torn countries and reconnecting with his whakapapa - I’m even more inspired. Here’s why:

1. He relentlessly pursued his craft; journalism and story telling and stuck with “one” thing for his entire career. He went deep, not wide!

2. He used his platform to bring other people up throughout his career. During his time in Palestine, he leaned on the help of a young Palestinian translator who learnt to speak different languages from watching movies. He later supported his path into further education and his own career successes.

3. I appreciate Mike’s vulnerability in sharing his authentic journey reconnecting with his own whakapapa - both highs and lows - and inspiring others to do the same!

Kia ora Matua for your stories this morning! Hope this little kingi chopping board will serve your whānau and whare well.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou to the Wiri Business Association whānau for feeding us and setting up another cool morning event.
