From Frustration to Innovation: How Cleanstone is Giving Designers Beautiful, Sustainable Material Options for the Future
When recycled plastics look this good, it's hard to let moments like this slip away... SOUND ON 😂

When I was 24, I was working as an architectural graduate on a fit out project for a far north airport. I was in charge of specifying materials.

I remember feeling so frustrated because I had at the time only 2 options:

a. I could've specify a beautiful product, however it had ingredients I couldn't pronounce and at the end of life it was landfilled.

b. Or I could specify a sustainable product, however back in the mid 2010's there weren't many options and the ones available were ... ugly ... and didn't last.

And because a fit out only lasted between 5-7 years, it didn't make sense for materials to be landfilled within such a short timeframe.

So we wondered 'what if we created the company to give designers like ourselves better materials options that was beautiful, strong and sustainable?'

And that was why we started Critical. and developed Cleanstone.

Also it turned out that I wasn't the only designer who felt that way. Fast forward to today, as designers, founders and managers of my generation (millennials) take control of the global economy, issues of climate change and circularity are now shaping the way we build the spaces and products of today and of tomorrow!

I run a green building materials company called Critical. and we help designers and founders create beautiful spaces and products using 100% recycled plastics panels called Cleanstone.
